A glass prepreg blade on a two piece straight glass shaft with an aluminium adjustable connector. Splitting the shaft buys you 10 cm of length adjustment and infinite feather, so you can change the setup on the bank or mid trip rather than living with whatever you ordered. It also packs down, which makes it the one to have for travel, for expeditions, or as the spare that lives behind your seat.
The Flyte is built around stroke efficiency. The blade has an assertive catch that encourages you to start the stroke earlier, and the width tapers gradually so it releases cleanly at the end. The shape borrows from slalom racing, where getting everything out of every stroke is the whole game.
Store a split paddle with the connector open rather than closed. It keeps the joint out of constant tension and the paddle will last a good deal longer for it.
Other ways to have the Flyte
The one piece glass build is lighter on the wallet and the simplest option if you do not need adjustment. The Aircore carbon blade is lighter and stiffer, on a glass or carbon shaft, and is also available as a split. A cranked carbon shaft puts your wrists in a more neutral position, which many paddlers find more comfortable.
