The blade
The Skera is VE's newest touring blade at 615 cm², developed alongside working sea kayak guides. It is the most adaptable of the three: happy at a low angle for steady mile after mile, and happy to be driven at a higher angle when you need to get somewhere. The catch is smooth rather than abrupt, which keeps it gentle on the shoulders over distance.
If you are not sure which touring blade you want, or you paddle in mixed conditions and vary your stroke to suit, this is the safest choice in the range.
Glass or Aircore carbon
Aircore is VE's carbon blade construction. It saves weight, which you feel most towards the end of a long day, and adds stiffness for a more direct feel. Glass weighs a little more, has slightly more give and costs less. Both are built the same way and both hold up to salt, sand and shingle.
Straight or bent shaft
A straight shaft is the default and suits most paddlers. A bent shaft holds the wrist in a more neutral position, which helps anyone with existing wrist, elbow or shoulder trouble, and many paddlers find it more comfortable on long days whether or not they have had problems. It is a personal preference.
Every VE touring paddle is a two piece split, so it packs down for transport and lets you adjust length and feather on the water.
The other VE touring blades
The Fara at 650 cm² is the bigger, higher angle blade with more power on tap. The Vanda is the dedicated low angle option, long and narrow for cruising.
